EXERCISE XXVI, EXERCISE XXVII, & LETTER WRITING

E X E R C I S E   XXVI
A Sick Friend

+ I heard from Mr. Tono that you were sick since last three days. What was wrong with you ?
- I was suffering from Malaria fever. I couldn’t sleepat all the first I had it. I felt myself very cold and shi-
vered as if I were in the winter time.
+ I didn’t know it. I was just thinking why you didn’t come to the office. I supposed you made a trip to Su-
lawesi, for you had ever told me last month that you would go. Luckily I heard about you from Mr. Tono.
- I haven’t prepared to go there yet. I sould have gone last week, fortunately I didn’t. if we were going, -
what would have happened on me if I were sick on the way ?
+ Yes, it is very fortunate indeed. By the way, have you consulted the doctor ?
- Yes, I have two times injection from him and he also gave me prescription for the medicine.
+ What kind of the medicine did he give you ? Where is it ?
- I have hust sent my man to take it from the druggist. He hasn’t come yet.
+ Did you vomit much ? Let me feel your pulse. It is not bad really. But you must keep the advise of the –
doctor. Don’t sit up ! Just lay down ! Don’t worry yourself !
- No, nothing. I have been tired laying since the morning. I am very glad to see you come to visit me, Mr.
  Toni.
+ Don’t mention it ! How is your appetite now in eating ? But you must keep advise of the doctor. Do you
  wish to have anything ?
- I can’d understand. I feel everything tasteless. I ask my cook to make some soup which I thought would
satisfy my appetite in eating. But unfortunately it was also nonsense.
+ it is always like that when we are sick. But we must try to persuade ourselves to have something. Other-
wise, we will be much weaker.
- I wish to have some oranges, but the doctor forbid it. why is it ?
+ No sweet or sour thing might be eaten by the man who is suffering from malaria fever, for that’s the ve-
ry thing the malaria germ like very much. We will get worse when eating it.
- In that case, that was perhaps the reason when I shivered more last night after eating two oranges. I
didn’t know it, you see ?
+ You must do it again. It is very dangerous. Have you informed Mr. Nurdin of your having fever ?
- No. I forget to tell him. Will you please him when you meet him ?
+ Alright, I will message to him as soon as I go home.
- I used to be afraid to swallow any medicines, but this time I can help it. I closed my eyes and persuade
my eyes and persuade myself to swallow it. it was very bitter indeed.
+ you musn’t be afraid of swallowing any medicine, if you want to be soon well. Otherwise, you won’t be
   better.
- I did it, you see ? but my hair stood on before swallowing it and yet I swallowed it.
+ That’s why you are getting better now. I hope I will see you soon in the office.
- I hope so. thank you. Would you like to drink, Mr. Toni ?
+ Don’t worry now, Mr. Karim. Excuse me, I have something very important to do. I will be off for a mo-
ment. I will be back again.
- Alright, Mr. Toni. Thank you very much for your kind visiting case. Come again if have time !
+ Certainly, I will. Don’t you delay to swallow the medicine, do you ?
- No. I will do my best to eat it. you needn’t be afraid of it.
+ I am glad to hear it now. Excuse me, I will see you again. So long !
- So long….!

- I got leave only one month and I have already spent it for twenty days. I will be here only about one –
  week again.

   here ?
+ No, no. it is nearby. Shall we go there ? Fortunately, I will be free tomorrow. I shallbe glad to accompany
  You if you don’t mind.
- Oh, how glad I will be. if youhave no objection to go with me. You know, I am still stranger here. I don’t
know much about Bandung yet. If you would like to accompany me, I shall be very pleased.

+ Shall I come to see you at your uncle’s house tomorrow ?
- Please ! Are there many kind of animals ?
+ Yes. There you will see the lion, the tiger, the beer, the zebra, the elephant, the ape, the different kind
of monkeys, the sea animal, the pea-cook, the pea-hen, and many kind of birds.
- Is it often visited by many people ? I think it is, isn’t it ?

+ Yes. It is often crowded particularly on Sunday morning. Many people from upcountries are coming to it.
- What time shall we go tomorrow ?
+ At any time you wish, I shall be waiting for you. You know my address, don’t you ?
- Yes.i will call on you at eight tomorrow. Will that be alright ?

+ Yes. I hope it will not beraining tomorrow.
- it rains or not rain, I don’t mind. I will be at your place at eight. If it is raining, I will come by trishaw.
+ Thank you for your kindness.
- Not at all. Now so long. I will see you tomorrow.

+ So long. Thank you.

MARRIAGE FEAST

+ Were you invited to the wedding feast of Mr. Karim, the English teacher ?
- No. he doesn’t acquaint me and also he hasn’t known that I have been here.
+ I supposed he was formerly your classmate, wasn’t he ?
- Yes. But he was in the first standard when I was in the third. So we never associated with each other.
+ But I think he knows you very well. He often talked of your name before you removed here from –
   Bandung.
- It’s  possible for I had never helped his father once when he was in great difficulty, of course, his father
had often mention my name before him.
+ You misunderstand. It isn’t because of that only. But his son is also learning from you. Do you know Mr.
Ali, the head of B office ?
- Yes, he was formerly jobless and I recommended him to Mr. Nur, the director of B office. He was very –
capable person and very honest too, that made Mr. Nur trusted and liked him. And three months ago
he was appointed the head of B office.
+ There you are. He is the man to get marriage to Mr. Nur’s daughter. She is also your pupil.
- That is I don’t know. I supposed Mr.Karim is going to get married for he has been a widower since last
two years after the death of his wife.
+ No. I mean his son’s wedding feast. I was mistaken to say. I am sorry.
- I haven’t received his invitation card yet, may be tomorrow.
+ I am sure they wil invite you, because Mr. Ali had told me about it and he had already asked me tour
   address.
- Oh I see. But the weather is very warm today, isn’t it ?
+ Yes, it is. I am perspired look.
- I am also the same. I think it is going to rain tonight, because it hasn’t been raining from last three –
   months.
+ Yes. I think it is already time to rain now. In fact the rain is good for the farmers. I am sure they often
    pray for the rain.
- It is true. But the labours don’t like the rain, because it is a hindrance for themto come to their office and
Also the trishaws are very scarce to the raining time. If there is any, we have to pay them double.
+ We can’t help it. if I were the trishaw puller, I wouldn’t pull in the raining time because I can’t stand the cold.
- Yes. It is also right. But youmust remember that we have different way of earning our living.
+ some people have no thought of justice. Even though they are rich, they are fond of paying the trishaw
   below the usual fare.
- Sometimes it happens so, but sometimes the trishaw pullers will not receive even though we have paied
them more than usual. They suppose by contradicting of the fare, wewill be ashamed and we are comp-
  elled to pay double.
+ The best thing to do is to fix up the fare first, before going by the trishaw.so there will be no trouble –
   against the trishaw pullers.
- As to my part, I prefer to walk rather than to go by trishaw. I can go with an umbrella or with a banana –
leaf. You know, my earn is a little, just enough to cover my daily expence. If I go by trishaw my house-
  hold will suffer.
+ But you don’t live far away from your office, do you ?
- No. it takes only fifteen minutes walk to my office.
+ How is about your aducation now ? Are you still learning ?
- I think I will end my study next month. Tonight is my time to learn. I think I am better to go off now. So long !
+ So long. Thank you.
